If you’re a graduating college student, doing your thesis is probably what you’re most busy of. Isn’t it scary to think that your future lies on that report and if you don’t pass, no toga will be given to you this coming graduation? Well, if your thesis is going through a lot of gunshots and rejections, fret no more because you have your thesis adviser to help you. On the other hand, there will be times that you will experience a thumbs down from your adviser. So if I were you, maybe you should start coming up with really neat and smart ideas on how to make your thesis interesting and not “bore-ing”. Here are some tips on how to give it your best shot during the oral defense:
Dress Up Like Your a CEO – They say first impressions last so make sure that you’re totally spruced up before you step up that platform and present your topic. You can shop for cheap corporate attires at the nearest mall or if you’re a bit short of budget, borrowing clothes will do. For guys, light colored business attire can be a nice getup. For girls, light make-up and small accessories can make you look good but avoid looking too chic.
Come Up With a Catchy Introduction – Remember that your panelists have gone through several thesis reports before you present yours so they might be a little bit tired. The thesis itself has it’s own introduction but if you want the panelists to be lightened, think of a catchy way to get their full attention.
Use Animation – You’re a part of the modern generation and it would be a shame if you’re not going to take use of some animations to make your report look more interesting. There are a lot of freelance animation artists that you can hire for a few hundreds of pesos. As what most Filipinos say “Gumastos ka na rin lang, i-todo mo na at siguraduhin mong maganda!”.
Show a Short Video Documentation – Along your thesis defense, you won’t avoid seeing some panelists yawning. This is just a possibility but if you are thinking ahead of this, it’s good to make a short video documentation about your topic. It will not only awaken the panelists’ sleeping mind but it will also add points to your final requirement.
Hope these tips will help you a lot. You still have a few months to prepare for your thesis oral defense so don’t procastinate, okay? Good luck!
