Tips on how to deal with a break-up

All of us go through a stage in our lives wherein we fall in love. Well if you haven’t experienced being in love, I’m pretty sure you will soon enough. Relationships are what we value the most. I’m sure you have experienced the feeling of “Kilig” when you see your crush or the person you admire. This is just the beginning of what we call as falling in love. We grew up in a society wherein we were made to believe that every fairytale or love story ends up in happily ever after but as you grow up and experience falling in love, happy endings become so complicated and sometimes even impossible. As you grow up, you realize that relationships aren’t just as simple as learning how to read and write. There are a lot of stages you have to go through in order to achieve that happy ending you’ve been looking for. You meet that stranger at one moment of your life, you get to know each other, commitment issues and then you become intimate, time goes by and both of you get comfortable with each other and this is where problems arise. You experience different kinds of problems that would either strengthen or end your relationship. There is a tendency that most people give more than what they should in a relationship. Most people forget their self because of too much love for the other person. This is what makes your relationship unhealthy since there is a tendency that your partner will take you for granted. As much as you want to believe that the person you are with now will be the person you will be in twenty or thirty years more, in our society that we live today, it proves a lot that this belief is eighty percent false. So what are the things that you should do in order to survive a break up or even a divorce? Here are some tips to stop those tears and gloomy days:

3 Definite Eraserheads Songs

How I miss the 90s. It was my own Summer of Love, during those years, with the toll of adolescence and then-contemporary culture seeping its influence on me. It has its highs and lows, but how I wish I had a time machine to live back during those glory years.

One of the highlights that I’ve encountered during the 90s years – the so-called Generation X years – was Pinoy music. And the best songs I’ve heard during the era was mainly from just one band – the legendary Eraserheads. I don’t know about you – if you are familiar with their songs – but just listening to their songs brings goosebumps in the back of my neck. What I like best about the band is that their songs are a good and genuine reflection of the Filipino culture, that everything is said just how life is. Man, I’m starting to reminisce again.

But back to the article. With the tons of songs that the band has produced (7 studio albums), almost every ditty of theirs is a favorite. But if you’d like to know more of the Eraserheads impact on the Philippine culture, you may want to check these songs out:

Pare Ko

Definitely a crowd-pleasure. Roughly translated as “My Friend”, the song tells of a young man’s trouble with love. The great – and come to think of it, funny – thing about this single is that almost every single Filipino male can actually relate to the song. With Pinoy males generally keeping things to themselves (we all have to be macho), all it takes to share and speak the pain is by simply drowning your tears with a good buddy of yours, in an old-fashioned drinking session. Pare Ko does come in two versions – one, featuring a clean, radio-friendly track; the other, filled with swear words that Pinoy love-rejected males seem to always scream to.

Spoliarium

What makes the Eraserheads such a great band to listen to is their diversity. This can be particularly heard in Spoliarium, a sombre and dark track. With no definite meaning to the cryptic lyrics available, tons of interpretations have sprung in the Philippines (including of a rape case between a sexy starlet and some known Pinoy entertainers). Yet, according to the band’s ex-manager, the song’s just about one of the band’s many drinking sessions. It just shows how great a lyricists Ely Buendia (the band’s frontman) is.

Kaliwete

Speaking of how talented a writer Buendia is, listen to Kaliwete. Roughly translated as left-handed, the song has also spun tons of interpretations among fans. It does have two varying meanings – either a love affair with a seedy masseur, or worse, a cross-dresser – but no one knows for sure. It’s better left out in the open, for the song is such a great track to listen to.

The Eraserheads have definitely made their mark in Philippine history. Though these is just a small fraction of their many hits, listening to the songs listed in this article will give you not only an idea on how Pinoy music sounds, but a great way to learn more about the culture.

Are You a Leader? A Quick Movie Hero Quiz

So, you want to be a leader. And not just any leader – you want to be the best there is. Though there may be no fool-proof plan on being one (after all, it takes a lot of practice, time and patience to lead people), you can do the next best thing. How? By setting your mind on it. And what better way to create an image of a leader than using Movie Heroes? Take this quiz and see if you’ve got the makings of a powerful ruler:

You are in fortress, about to face thousand of orcs. On your side – a small battalion of sharpshooting elves, hundreds of peasants forced to fight, and a single stout dwarf. Theirs – abominations of trolls and orcs, coupled with the hundreds of suicidal bombers. What do you do?

A. Wave the White Flag
B. Cry like the baby you are
C. Raise your sword up high, motivate your men to fight through the night

You have to guard a bridge against a German regiment. Your forces are wounded, unmotivated, and in this bizarre case – too young to actually face danger. Plus, the German forces have a tank. What do you do?

A. Give up on the bridge, tell everyone that it’s better to be POWs
B. Cry like the baby you are
C. Just do it. Fight against the Nazis

After a surreal and bloody battle with Persian assassins, you suddenly find you and your army under a dark sky. No, it isn’t rain. It’s actually arrows. What do you do?

A. Shout “This is Sparta!”
B. Cry like the baby you are
C. Let you and your men cover yourselves with shields, and laugh about fighting in the shade

So, are you a leader? If you’ve answered A in any of the three scenarios, then there’s probably a lot to work out to. Giving up is a big NO in leading people. You’d need to show you can stand strong against any odds. And in the third scenario, just because you’ve shouted something to boost your troops morale doesn’t automatically mean you’re a leader. You have to carefully think things over first (otherwise, you’ll be in a world of hurt with the prickly Persian arrows).

If you did answer B, you may need to consider building up your confidence first. A leader usually takes the bulk of stress and pressure in any field of work. So you just can’t cry and act like a baby.

If you did answer C, then give yourself a pat in the back. Hooray! You’ve just got what it takes to be a leader! Have this short quiz ready, anytime you feel you need to boost your leadership skills up!

I’m Sorry: Because your Girlfriend’s the Queen of your World

I did it – I messed up real back. I was supposed to pick my girlfriend up from work last night. But with me having to write 25 articles, and stopping over a cool comic shop – that was more than enough reason for my girlfriend to be furious with me. She is still, actually, mad at me. So much, that not even a single sorry was enough to not let her decide on breaking up on me. So what did I do to make everything A-OK again? Check these tips out, in case you messed up real bad, or ran out of things to say you’re sorry to your loved one:

Shopping Spree
They say shopping is great therapy. That sure is right, for my girlfriend! So I treated my girlfriend out on a whole-day, no complaints from me, shopping extravaganza. We went to almost every single store in the mall – from affordable clothing finds in department stores, shoes and pumps in designer labels, even high-end, more-than-averaged priced boutiques – everything for her heart’s desire. That didn’t stop with the clothes and accessories. We went to restaurants, sampled the latest coffee flavors, even went for whole bags of candies! That sure did cool her down, through. As an important tip when doing this approach, make sure to not look bored during the shopping escapade. That’ll only make her more furious, when she asks how she looks like on that expensive summer dress. Also, to make it more beneficial for you – lessen the pain, man – go out on the shopping spree during mall sales. It’ll help you to not totally burn your pockets, it’ll also tire her down with the tons of other girls in the mall!

Sweets for My Love
Chocolates are a good way to say sorry. Not just any ordinary chocolate will do. Never buy a single, cheap chocolate to say you’re sorry – you’ll only make things worse! To keep it safe, buy a box of chocolates. Make it in variety, so that you’ll never go wrong on flavor. Also, you may want to try themed chocolates, or those than can be personalized. Check out pastry shops, if they can carve a “I’M SORRY” in a bar of chocolate. Also, when doing this approach, make sure (again, make sure) that your girl isn’t on a diet.

Hug
Sometimes, all it takes is a nice warm hug to say you’re sorry. It shows that you truly value your partner, that no material object can match to her. Human touch is essentially the best form of contact, that a hug will not only let her feel that you’re genuinely asking for forgiveness, that you’re also telling her that she completes you (as cheesy as it sounds). I should know, I went for this approach!

Everything is cool with me and my girlfriend. It sure was hard for me to get things back to a stable level, but at least it’s back to normal. I’ll make sure to keep things tight this time, and try to prevent getting in that comic shop again!
